MAX S. BELL, JR., ESQ.

Max is a retired lawyer having engaged in the general practice of law with Richards, Layton and Finger in Wilmington for 40 years. He served as President of the Delaware affiliate of the American Civil Liberties Union, and now represents Delaware on the A.C.L.U. National Board. He has been a member of the Delaware Blue Cross-Blue Shield Board of Directors for 30 years and on the Board of CareFirst, Inc. Max served as Chairman of the Delaware State Human Relations Commission and 20 years as a Board member for Family Service of Delaware. Max serves on the Board of Sojourners' Place as well as the West Center City Adult Center, both located in Wilmington. Max is on the vestry of the Episcopal Church of Saints Andrew and Matthew and has held various positions in the local, state and national segments of the Episcopal Church. He is a graduate of P.S. Dupont High School in Wilmington, Bates College in Maine, and the Harvard Law School.

THE REV. CANON LLOYD CASSON

Lloyd Casson is the former Rector of the Episcopal Church of Saints Andrew and Matthew in Wilmington. Canon Casson began his ministry by serving parishes here in Wilmington and went on to serve at the Washington National Cathedral, New York's Cathedral of St. John the Divine and Trinity Church, Wall Street. He has served as Social Justice Officer for the Episcopal Church, and Rector of St. Mark's Church in the Bowery, New York. In his work, Canon Cason has traveled extensively throughout Europe, Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union, Africa, India, the Carribean, Central and South America. Lloyd Casson's public and outspoken ministry in Wilmington was during a time of intense community turbulence and violence, particularly in the wake of the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Canon Casson served as the first black President of the School Board of Wilmington.

ANNE DePAUL

Anne DePaul is a native Delawarean and has been a member of the “church alumni association” much of her adult life but now is a member of the Episcopal Church and worships at St. Peter’s in Smyrna. Anne came to BPI through a workshop that the Community for Progressive Christianity sponsored several years ago and she has been active in CPC since. Her training is as a technical writer and she has been an administrator of adult programs at the University of Delaware for the last nineteen years. She earned both her bachelors and her masters degrees at UD as an adult student. Anne is a mother of four grown children and a grandmother.

ELIZABETH ELLIOT

After living in Georgia, Wyoming, and Connecticut, Elizabeth Elliott is excited to make Delaware her home. Elizabeth spends her days with her husband, Brandon, and her three children, Mason (7), Thomas (4), and Anna (1). Through kicking soccer balls, swimming laps, and changing diapers her days are full! Working with teenagers brings Elizabeth much joy in her free time. She is currently a leader with the Journey to Adulthood program at Christ Church. She loves being on the journey with teenagers as they explore their faith and their Christian commitment. She brings to Christ Church her previous experience in leading this program in Wyoming and Connecticut. When she can, she loves to disappear on a trail in the woods.

WILLIAM F. ENGLEHART

Bill has served faithfully on the BPI Board for many years and as President of Farley Printing Company, Inc., a Wilmington graphic arts firm, Bill has expertly overseen BPI's printing and publications needs. He is a very active member of Silverside Church in Wilmington since 1980 where he has served as Moderator and Chair of the Church Council, member of the Board of Finance & Property, the Board of Deacons, and the Communications Committee.

DREWRY N. FENNELL, ESQ.

Drewry N. Fennell is Executive Director of the American Civil Liberties Union of Delaware. Prior to assuming that position, she was an employment lawyer in private practice with Young Conaway Stargatt & Taylor, LLP in Wilmington, DE. She received an undergraduate degree in English from the University of Delaware and received her law degree with honors from Rutgers University School of Law in Camden, NJ, where she served on the Rutgers Law Journal. Following her graduation from law school, she clerked for the Honorable Bernard M. Balick of the Delaware Court of Chancery. Ms. Fennell is admitted to practice in Delaware. Ms. Fennell is active in the community, where she serves on the Board of Directors of the Mary Campbell Center, the Board of Directors of JUST for Youth, the Vestry of Trinity Episcopal Church in Wilmington, DE, the Board of Trustees of SURJ (Stand Up For What’s Right and Just) and is Vice President of the Delaware Liberty Fund. She serves on the Citizens Advisory Panel of the Delaware State Police and is also an active member of other organizations, including the Delaware State Bar Association and Metropolitan Wilmington Urban League, and is a founding member of the Delaware Human Rights Coalition. She lives in Wilmington with her partner and four children.

MARCY PERKINS

Marcy Perkins is a native Delawarean who grew up in the Church of the Brethren, one of the three historic peace churches. After graduating from Manchester College with a B.A. in Peace Studies, she worked for a year as a political activist through Brethren Volunteer Service. The following year she began a career in homeless ministry that has spanned nearly 30 years. During that time she also got her M.S. in Pastoral Counseling from Neumann College. She is currently Director of Women’s Ministry at Friendship House, a coalition of churches serving the homeless population in Wilmington. She is married to Bill Perkins, Executive Director of Friendship House.

STEVE STEINWEDEL

Steve is Adjunct Professor in Community Counseling at Wilmington College and Counselor at Delaware Technical and Community College. He is a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Wilmington and has an abiding passion for golf and for yoga. Steve was head basketball coach at the University of Delaware from 1985-1995 and assistant basketball coach at Duke University from 1978-1980. He recently defended his doctoral dissertation in the area of personal and professional coaching. Steve conducts workshops and seminars on leadership dynamics and development as well as working with individuals on a coaching/consulting basis. He brings to the BPI Board an interest in expanding our educational offerings to the community.

GENE THOMPSON

Gene, a charter member of BPI's Board in 1987, has a Ph.D in chemistry and worked for DuPont and retired as a manager. He and his wife, Clarice, are active members of First & Central Presbyterian Church in Wilmington, and there Gene has served as elder and council leader. He has been a teacher at the Academy of Lifelong Learning and at various church groups in the area. He has a keen interest in continuing education and personal growth and channels that interest and energy in expanding BPI's educational ministry. In addition to his teaching and consulting work, Gene enjoys his retirement by gardening, traveling, reading, as well as writing poetry and prose. He and Clarice have been married now over 50 years and have two adult children, Rob and Laura.

THE REV. RODERICK WELLES, JR.

Rod Welles was educated at Wilmington Friends School, Yale University, Episcopal Divinity School and at Boston State Hospital where he did advanced clinical pastoral education. During his career he has served as a Chaplain and teacher at St. Paul’s School in Concord, N. H. and as head of the upper school at Portledge School in Locust Valley, New York. He then served as Headmaster of the Sewanee Academy at the University of the South in Sewanee, TN, and of the Arlington Schools, Atlanta, GA. Locally, Rod has served as a consultant to Independent School Management and Program Coordinator of the Men’s Center of Friendship House. He has served on the Board of Trustees for the Independence School, St. Anne’s Episcopal School, and the Wawaset Maintenance Corporation. Currently he serves as Priest Associate of the Episcopal Church of Saints Andrew and Matthew, as the facilitator for Racism Awareness and Inclusion Training for Church Leaders, and as a retreat leader.
